Our hearts need to be filled with God. Jesus came to earth to make this possible. He was born to die, so that we no longer need to live with the world in us as Lot’s wife did. She had no room in her for the Lord and became a pillar of salt. Luke 8

(Luke 8) We had a great year as a ministry and are so thankful to so many people. When Christ is preached and someone hears and they believe, and Christ comes into their heart and they are not guilty anymore. When they are not guilty, can you imagine? I am not guilty anymore. The Spirit of God sets them free and they are so thankful. They say in their heart praise you God that you have people in the world that bring the message. At work, you don’t evangelize at your working place in any official or formal capacity but it happens. Someone will say I need to talk to you. You go to the cafeteria and they start to weep. They are looking for help. They don’t know what they are looking for. The Holy Spirit ministered to you and gave you words and comfort and some answers. You are able to say with some wisdom and love.
We’ve had a great year with God feeding us, feeding the flock. Bringing these words off the page to our hearts. Thank you Jesus you did that. He that waters and he that sows is nothing. It’s God that gives the increase.
Many years ago up in Maine, I went to Dr. Stevens’ church and hitchhiking home to Booth Bay Harbor, the police picked me up and brought me to the police station. Who are you? What is the name of the church? Baptist church? I think it is. Pastor Stevens’s wife answered the phone. I say that because I didn’t know anybody. I didn’t know what was going on. I knew this: That I was listening to words that I could build my life on. I remember lying down at night in a trailer park…and my heart was on fire. I was so excited. I would go to the church and hear a man preach but behind the man was something more. It was God. God was with us in that church.
Thank you Jesus. We did not make this up. You came. You came in a manger. You came to Bethlehem. You left heaven. You came here because we need you. We need you. As we get older in the Lord, it’s more and more obvious. I need him more than ever. I can’t remember where my keys are! Where’s my car?! I need him. I need his people. I need this book. I need direction. I need some counsel. I need advice, love, encouragement, grace. I need to learn this not in a box of religion but I need the Holy Spirit the same way the wise men went to see him and the shepherds who were dirt poor…in a simple penniless society. Low end and the angels came to them first. Go to the city of David in Bethlehem and you will see him who is Christ the Lord. The angels sang and the shepherds went.
We’ve had a great year but it’s also a year of trouble. The world is talking about war. The world is talking rumors of war. The world is talking of conflict, Turkey, Iran, Russia, those three and Syria, Israel. Trouble. North Korea. Sometimes people get so into it and occupied they go to bed troubled. That’ not what this holiday is about. Trouble is here but so is the Prince of Peace. So is love, truth in the inner man. Inner man. Take care of the inner man. Take care of yourself in the inner man. It’s an age of deception. An age of being tricked. They are talking about it with our technology and high tech instruments and communication affects the next generation. We are in a time where you can get fast information and a lot of it but it can trick you and me. A lot of smoke and mirrors. A lot of perceptions and things going on in the world today that are fast and powerful and moving. We have another focus.
Remember Lot’s wife. She left Sodom and Gomorrah but Sodom and Gomorrah were in here bosom. She loved Sodom and Gomorrah. She loved it. The shortest message in the New Testament, Jesus said it, remember Lot’s wife. Period. That’s all. He turned and walked away.
This holiday is, I don’t have to care about Lot’s wife because I have found the answer for Lot’s wife’s problem. What was in her couldn’t get out of her unless this Christ came in her. When this Christ comes in you and you feel it and taste it in a fresh way, you don’t care about Sodom and Gomorrah.
There is Moscow and Tokyo and New York. Huge powerful systems. But because he came, I have something else to build my life on. It’s the H.S. that will fill you and you can be satisfied. Not guilty. Free. Not depressed, encouraged. Not confused but clear in your heart and mind. Mighty God, Wonderful Counselor. He is. We aren’t. We do our best. He is a Wonderful Counselor.
Sometimes it comes out of us. Sometimes that clear sound is there. That’s what I needed. I need to hear what God has to say in my heart unless I am like Lot’s wife who leaves by the force of an angel but doesn’t want to leave. She is deceived and tricked like all of us can be. Misled. This Christmas and this coming year.
You say pastor I tried it and I lived it but I can’t find it. It’s not what you’re saying. I can’t get a hold of it. It hasn’t got ahold of me. We say calm down. Don’t worry about it. God will take care of you. Don’t worry about it. Don’t be guilty about it. Don’t try anymore. Collapse in his arms. Our God will carry you. He cares for you more than you can imagine. He knows you and I cannot do this. Sometimes what is needed is a straight up talk. I cannot. Lord says I’ve been waiting a long time for you to say those words. When I think I stand then you fall. If you can stand like this, you will stand. You get it. If you are unstable you need God and when you need God you end up standing. When you are standing you don’t need God. When strong in yourself you don’t have strength in God. We need to find the weakness and disappointment and crushing and collapse and we go to God with the right attitude and spirit. God help me. It’s right here when I am strong and I need him and find him.
Christmas in our country, praise God, not everyone but a number of people around the country are celebrating and sharing hope. We go to our neighbors and say Merry Christmas. We did in our neighborhood today a little bit. We are caring. Go to a nursing home and all the work that has happened this past year, all the amazing work of the H.S. and what the Holy Spirit has done, is done and will do. It’s all because God loves us and gave his Son.
Words cannot express what it means. Way above and beyond what we can ever think. It does not yet appear what we shall be. When we see him, we shall be like him. Made in his image, raised out of the dirt to the glory of God.
I heard a preacher say Christmas is deity in a diaper. It sounded a little vulgar to me but I digested it and thought about it. Mary did you know when you touched the baby’s face, you were touching the face of God?
Did you know that? If it is so, we are in the best place, best hands, and best hope. We have the best answer to Lot’s wife and problem in her heart. The mighty Wonderful Counselor, the ultimate answer for death.
Tomorrow we will gather and give gifts and watch the children and behind this holiday which the world also loves very much is a spiritual essence. God so loved us he gave and doesn’t stop giving and speaking and loving and keeping us. What a day. Eternal day of God. Amen.
